The Manitowoc County Historical Society relies on your kindness, especially when our collections are concerned. You are, after all, the history of Manitowoc County.
If you have something you'd like to donate to MCHS we'd ask that you take a minute to read our mission statement below. This will help you understand better our reason for collecting and the type of items we collect.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society, founded in 1906, is a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation. The Society preserves and promotes the history and heritage of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin through the collection, interpretation, and preservation of historical data, records, artifacts, buildings, historic sites, and other items of material culture in order to educate the public and heighten its understanding and appreciation of the past.

What we collect:
Archaeological Collections
The archaeological collections consist of the material remains from prehistoric and historic sites in Manitowoc County and Wisconsin. They include such items as projectile points, stone tools, pottery, and plant remains.
General Historical Collections
These items illustrate the wide variety of materials made and/or used in Manitowoc County. They may include tools, household goods and furnishings, personal items, architectural elements, stamps, coins and scientific equipment. These objects reflect a broad range of topics including politics, government, business, industry, services and professions, sports and recreation, agriculture, transportation, communications and architecture.

It can take several months for our collections committee to evaluate an item after its been offered. The more information you provide us on its history, the better.
