When the Civil War began, Manitowoc, WI, raised a company of soldiers to defend the Union. The town made them a magnificent flag to carry into battle. In the summer of 1861, the 105 volunteers left on the steamer Comet, to report to Camp Randall for training. They would become Company A, of the 5th Wisconsin Volunteers Regiment. Through the diaries of one of these men, James S. Anderson, we will see the war through his eyes. Experience what it was truly like to fight in the Civil War by watching A UNION SOLDIER REMEMBERS. |
This is a story of farmers, milk cows, dairy barns, and green pastures. It is the story of cheese makers who work their magic and turn milk into cheese. In Cheese, The Making of a Wisconsin Tradition, award-winning author Jerry Apps narrates the history of the cheese-making industry in Wisconsin from its inception in the 1840s to the present. Apps explains the many different kinds of Wisconsin-made cheeses (including those that originated or are exclusively made in the state), and discusses the current cheese producers, their factories and technology. |
